Lieutenant Governor-elect Ben Schierer.

Lieutenant Governor-elect

Ben Schierer

Ben Schierer grew up in Fergus Falls and has a long history of serving his community.

Fergus Falls is where he and his wife Tessa met in the fifth grade, where they’re raising their five children, and where they built two small businesses from the ground up. It’s where Schierer was elected to the City Council in 2004, elected Mayor in 2016, and reelected in 2020. It’s where he coaches youth sports and enjoys the outdoors with his family.

Schierer knows the hard work it takes to support a family and run a small business. He is devoted to economic development.

A former small business owner, Schierer owned and operated Union Pizza & Brewing Company and TÖAST in downtown Fergus Falls. As mayor, he worked to revitalize the Fergus Falls riverfront and bring local businesses back downtown. He currently works with the West Central Initiative, a regional nonprofit dedicated to economic development. And he recently wrote a well-received book called Perpich: a Minnesota Original about how small-town Iron Range dentist Rudy Perpich focused on economic development as Governor, bringing in major projects including the Mall of America.

Ben Schierer is proud to continue that work as Minnesota’s next Lieutenant Governor alongside Governor-elect Amy Klobuchar.

As a leader in economic development in rural Minnesota, and with experience as a mayor and small business owner, Schierer will help deliver on Amy’s vision to transform state government, expand Minnesota’s economy, and create good jobs across the state. As a resident of Fergus Falls, Schierer is the first person elected to statewide office from the 7th Congressional District in over 90 years.
